Schopenhauer states, “Everything… exists for knowledge, and hence, the whole of this world, is only object in relation to the subject, perception of the perceiver, in a word, representation.” (Page 3) In short, Schopenhauer believes that the world, or rather, reality, is split into two parts, the object and the subject. The object lies in time and space whilst the subject serves as the “universal condition of all that appears.” “Whatever exists, exists only for the subject” (page 5) Without the subject, there is no object (therefore, no time and space). Likewise, without the object there is no subject (therefore no universal condition).
I agree with Schopenhauer's ideas that reality is split in two parts. Everyone sees things in their own way. No two people can recall or tell the same exact story, it just doesn't happen. Reality and what we think is real are two different things all together.
