Schopenhauer sees reality as a separation of the subject (self/reality) and object (world/reality), apparent by individual will and representation. If one is the subject, reality is only as real as it appears in their eyes. Alternately, there is only the perception of the subject in reference to the represented perception of objects. The two must exist together but separately, where one begins, the other ceases.
