Schopenhauer thinks art is special because it allows those of genius to convey ideas to those who are incapable of seeing such ideas for themselves. He believes, like Plato, only a certain kind of people can see such ideas and therefore art is an important way to express these pure ideas. This leads into the idea that art is a very special form of expression as it does not need words. Schopenhauer also states that art allows us to lose our individuality and therefore more easily be able to think about these ideas.

  1. I like the connection you make between Plato and Schopenhauer, though it seems like Plato believed that anyone could learn or be taught to see the pure ideas, whereas Schopenhauer seems to think that certain people just have an innate ability to see them and that learning to see it is almost impossible.
