Plato makes a great point in the beginning of the reading that basically the sun and light are the only causes that make our eyes see color. In the dark we do not see color, the only time our eyes can notice a certain color is when there is light. Plato added a new idea on how to train his troops, he added the one thing that every human knows and should know in order to do just about anything in the world and that is counting. He found in order to be a good solider or commander they have to know how to count. He thinks that a person’s obedience level is based on how they were raised and what questions they were taught not to ask like what is right and what is wrong, it depends on the way that the child was raised if they even have to ask those questions because they were taught what was right. He also feels that people who rebel should be forgiven, because of the way they were raised, “people who are exposed to rational arguments, then, I said, ‘are quite likely to rebel and, as I suggested a moment ago, we should forgive them” (273). “In order to have the community feel the same way about integrity and mortality they banish everyone over the age of ten to the countryside and bring up the children to their own customs and laws so everyone is on the same page”(276). I think he changed the music perspective because the ears as a sense are meant to hear and without music what are they going to hear.
