Schopenhauer describes music as being different from any other art form. Music isn't a copy of an idea like Schopenhauer describes the other forms of art, it is the essence of the idea itself. He describes the relationship between music and the world as the relationship between the depiction and the thing depicted, music being the thing depicted.
I believe that what Schopenhauer is saying about the relationship between music and the world is that the world is a depiction, or representation of will. Music is pure will that is immediately and effortlessly understood by the individual.
