response for 9/28

I thought this chapter was the most interesting actually. "Far from being a mere aid to poetry, music is certainly an independent art; in fact, it is the most power of all the arts, and therefore attains its ends entirely from its own resources" (448). I really liked this point, because of all arts, music is on it's own wavelength. Sure, it can help with poetry, but a painting or sculpture doesn't give off the same, raw emotion as an instrumental, opera, etc. does.

It was also relieving to see some ideas about how music is created, with rhythm and such. Schopenhaur actually discusses the elements, rather than just describing his music in which he prefers to listen to.
