As we have previous discussed, Schopenhauer restates that Music "does not, like all the other arts, exhibit the Ideas or grades of the will's objectification. but directly the will itself..." (448). This chapter though, seems to be merely a representation of Schopenhauers ideas regarding "Music Theory" which, for me, is in a category of its own within the "Metaphysics of Music". Furthermore, this chapter seems to be an introduction to said Music Theory. Nothing really new except restating, in perhaps simpler terms, the ideas within Volume I. Continuing, Schopenhauer lets the reader down, by continually repeating his words, perhaps in a desperate hope to help us understand, but ultimately failing.
