Response 9/14/11


As many have already stated there is incredibly more
lenience when the guardians are adults in comparison to those fragile years of being a child. To me this is very interesting, as talked about in class the consistent cheery happy music with no music to express sadness and how we personally feel about it, I can see why Plato would prefer it this way at least during child development. If you continually listen to sad depressive music especially as a child wouldn't that then create a negative feeling towards the world and hatred which would bring out the bad qualities of the guardian to be displayed constantly day by day? While in your later years it's okay to hear that negative music as you're no long in that sensitive stage of development and have been given the tools to have what Plato would describe as character.
