It would seem as though Nietzsche falls away from Wagner because of Wagner's move towards German Nationalism, a move that is not for a cultural movement in the way that Nietzsche is hoping for. Instead it appears as though Wagner is looking a making a society of Germans that care more about going to the Opera rather than listening to, and appreciating, the opera. For Nietzsche this is against what he believes.
Furthermore, what may have been the absolute breaking point is that Wagner began to appeal to the masses of Germany, which Nietzsche was opposed to. Now the Apollonian music that was once great for Nietzsche is no longer there, instead it has changed to please the masses.
Other reasons include: [the way that Wagner presented his opera, in such a theatrical manner that it overthrew the other arts, i.e. music, involved with the production; the seductive manner in which the actor/ress' would present their part(s) etc.].
