10/3

Schopenhauer writes that as humans we are constantly striving and wanting, this want causes pain. When our wants are fulfilled or satisfied, we feel pleasure and are relinquished from the pain of wanting. When pain is absent and we want nothing and we have already been satisfied; we become bored. Art and music are representations an individual's world, pleasant songs or pictures freeze happiness so it can be felt with out the following of more pain or boredom. Art is not happiness itself but the artists representation of such emotion. Art can be a representation of the mood the artist was in when making the art. There is no wanting when viewing art, it purely gives pleasure.
