Schopenhauer's views on life seem to be backwards. To him, happiness is a negative thing, and suffering is a positive thing. Happiness wouldn't even exist without the suffering. Suffering in life is long lasting. There will always be sadness within us and to cut it off completely would not be acheivable. Happiness is a short-lived thign that would never be possible if it weren't for the suffering.
We can relate this to music because it brings all sorts of different emotions. Every bit of music has a story behind it. Sadder songs seem to have more suffering, and there seems to be more songs about sad things than there are happy things. Musicians relate their music to their lives. If they hapen to get one or two happy songs, it shows that happiness can be few and far between.
