In the beginning Nietzsche loves and admires Wagner for his ability to capture human emotion so deeply.
This starts to change however, as Nietzsche progressively ages he starts to see Wagner's views through his music. This could be just from their personal differences in ideals as Nietzsche writes, "I am far from looking on guilelessly while this decadent corrupts our health - and music as well. Is Wagner a human being at all? Isn't he rather a sickness? He makes sick whatever he touches - he has made music sick."(164) Isn't possible that from such hatred of a human being, the music that they composed is hated also? Granted when Wagner was played in class I had to hold puke back because of how it made me feel, as the text feels like it's just personal attacks on Wagner and not specifically Wagner music. Here and there he will make jabs at the music but the true blows are at Wagner as a person himself.
