Acorrding to Hanslick, the connection between music and emotion is strongly connected to the technical aspect of music (i.e. tone or pitch). Hanslick also believes that only musical experts can understand the emotions truly. This is sort of like the idea that Plato and Schopenhauer have about the genius or only a certain type of person being able to comprehend or understand the greater meaning. To Hanslick, just stating your feelings without musical knowledge they would not be truly understanding the meaning.
