Response 10/19/2011

I found Nietzsche's distinctions between Apollonian and Dionysian very useful. With Plato and Schopenhauer, the opinions were very strict and very apposing. With the two distinctions which Nietzsche presents, it gives a very good balance. It seems to me to be more reasonable that music is both "organized" and "chaotic" rather than one or the other.

  1. I completely agree with you. Music is organized and chaotic, which makes it so special. If it was disorganized and clean, it wouldn't make much sense. As unstructured as it is, it's one of the most clean things out there.
