Response 10/3

Schopenhauer says that we should free ourselves from the will, and to do that we must, I think he said, "deprive" ourselves of it. He says to live like the saints, because they have freed themselves from the will. He says, however, that it is not easy, and that it will only come from suffering. Also, one must continually fight to overcome the will, and it is not something that can just be done and over with.

Schopenhauer mentions maybe once how art frees us from the will for a moment, but as this is temporary, I'm not really sure how he feels about art, and if he thinks it really is all that useful. He seemed pretty fond of it in earlier readings, but from what I just read, I'm no longer sure what he really thinks about it.
