One of Langer's views that I found interesting was her theory that once words are put to music, the words are no longer a separate literary form – they become part of the music-assimilated. Langer points out that the words to a song do not have to be literally great as long as they have the same emotional core as the music.
I kind of get what she is saying – there are some songs with some really stupid lyrics, but because they work with the music, they are pretty good together – "Yellow Submarine" by the Beatles comes to mind – the lyrics, stupid as they are, work well with the music and make a catchy fun tune.
