Langer believes music is an illusion in the sense that it evokes emotions and thoughts differently from person to person. Through the music, your mind calls upon images and emotions, creating ideas and new images. This is an illusion because everyone perceives it differently. This contrasts visual art, which is physical expression of a specific idea, as apposed to music which allows the individual to express and create their own ideas.
