I find that Langer feels that music is an illusion because because of how differently music can be percieved. No answer to what a piece of music means is accurate, for really emotions and opinions are never wrong, or right for that matter. Or it could mean that since music has no physicality to it's existence, in order for us to receive and acknowledge music, our minds create what isn't already there (like an illusion [if one is walking through a desert and the landscape never changes, one's mind may begin to wonder and create it's own false reality]). It is like sensory deprivation in a sense. So since there is no physicality in music, the visuals aren't there to see, so we make up visuals in our minds subconsciously that fits the music in one way or another (varying on the person, mood of song, and many other factors.)
