Response for 11-2-11

Nietzsche describes Brahms as Wagner's antagonist, but though "an antagonist was needed, that does not make for necessary music." Nietzsche says how he was intrigued by Brahms until he realized how melancholic and full of longing his music was. While we went over the deception of Wagner's music last week, I'm not quite sure how Brahms' deceives its listeners or itself. However, Nietzsche claims that any type of deception from music is not a good thing, and how a person should avoid music that deceives.
