Langer has an interesting take on music I find. The most fascinating thing to me is as ddelorenzo says. There are some songs where at least I can hardly tell the difference between the music and the lyrics because there is such blending and harmony between the two. Bringing on the point that even if the lyrics are stupid as long as they sync in with the music it's all the same. I felt that was a great point as there are some bands that the singer was a deterrent to the overall quality of the music because it just didn't fit.
Two examples one being in my view how the vocalist voice fits in would be a band like Radiohead... at least on the album Ok Computer. His voice is just completely synced up with the emotional core of the music. An example of the opposite would be a band such as in my view.. The Fall of Troy, his voice makes turn off the music. Though listening to everything else there is such great quality to it and it is unfortunate that the singer doesn't in my view capture the core of emotions that the band can present.

I agree that the quality of the vocalist is also important when it comes to the music having a consistent emotional core. For example, no one outside of Freddie Mercury can sing a Queen song like he does.
